Question: What happens when you hire the upstairs of your local pub and invite a civil engineer, a spiritual healer, a brewer, and an ice artist?

Answer: We don’t know… but we’re going to find out.

At 7pm on 1st April 2026, at the Hare and Hounds in King’s Heath, we will be hosting the first of three talks in 2026.

The focus of this first event is Water — what it means to us scientifically, environmentally, commercially, and esoterically. With the help of our guest speakers, we’ll explore our unique relationship with this essential yet often overlooked element.

Our speakers all have water at the heart of what they do. With their backgrounds, passion, and knowledge, this evening promises to be truly one of a kind.

Our Speakers

Katie McBarron – Brewer at GlassHouse Brewery in Stirchley.
Katie asks the question: Why does Birmingham’s water make such good beer?
When we invited her to speak, she quickly went off on a fascinating tangent about pH levels and how they affect beer flavour… which, in our books, means she’s absolutely perfect for the evening.

Joe Follows – Civil Engineer and Kings Heath resident.
With 20 years of experience working across various sectors of water infrastructure, Joe’s work and passion revolve around our water systems. He’ll give us insight into the networks that bring water to our homes — in ways you may never have thought about before.

Doug – Ice Artist.
Some people make ice. Doug makes art.
Using age-old techniques, specialist equipment, and plenty of creative licence, Doug’s relationship with water is fascinating and visually striking.

Michelle Piggott – Moon & Mars.
Michelle is an unstoppable whirlwind of energy. Her journey to becoming a spiritual healer and champion of women is powerful and inspiring. Her relationship with water is unconventional, but deeply meaningful — and one that invites reflection and respect.
